Linked Resources allow Deal Room templates to reference a single authoritative version of a content section stored in the Content Library. When the linked content changes, all templates referencing it receive the update automatically.

## What Linked Resources Are

A Linked Resource is a section-level Content Resource connected directly to its source resource in the Content Library. Unlike standard resources, a linked resource is not copied into the template; it is synchronized with the original.

Linked Resources enable:

- Centralized updates
- Consistent messaging
- Reduced maintenance overhead
- Controlled content across all templates

They are essential for content that must remain uniform across the organization, such as product overviews, compliance information, and onboarding frameworks.

## Requirements and Structural Rules

Linked Resources follow a set of system rules:

**Public only**  
Only public resources can be linked across templates.

**Section-based**  
Linked Resources must represent entire sections; elements cannot be individually linked.

**Synchronized behavior**  
Edits to the source immediately update all templates where the resource is linked.

**Local override through unlinking**  
If a template requires customization, the linked resource can be unlinked and becomes local editable content.

**Legacy resources**  
Inline content added before Linked Resources existed must be re-added to activate linking.

## How Linked Resources Behave in Templates

When inserted, linked resources appear with:

- A visual indicator distinguishing them from local sections
- Locked content, preventing editing within the template
- Availability of update, replace, unlink, or remove actions

This preserves the reliability and consistency of centrally governed content.

## When to Use Linked Resources

Linked Resources should be used for:

- Content that must remain consistent across all rooms
- Standard messaging that should not be edited by reps
- Content updated frequently or seasonally
- Content maintained by marketing, enablement, or product teams

They should not be used for:

- Prospect-specific or custom content
- Information that varies significantly between deals
- Sections requiring rep-driven edits

## Governance and Maintenance

Linked Resources serve as a governance mechanism. Central teams can:

- Update messaging, branding, or product content once
- Ensure all templates remain compliant
- Retire outdated content cleanly
- Maintain version control across the workspace

This prevents drift between teams and ensures that sales, CS, and onboarding all use the same canonical content.

## Best Practices

- Use Linked Resources for any content that should not be edited in templates.
- Maintain a curated library of authoritative content blocks.
- Name Linked Resources clearly with purpose and version.
- Unlink only when truly necessary to customize.
- Keep updates minimal and structured to avoid unexpected changes across templates.
